Western Australia - Caversham Wildlife Park

Western Australia is the destination that I've traveled outside Singapore by plane when I was 22 years old. Now, I'm travelling there for the 3rd time with my husband and my boy, Alfred.

The city of Western Australia is Perth, which is approximately 5 hours by flight from Singapore. We always fly by SIA to Perth because the price of the air-ticket is much more reasonable than Qantas.

Not to mention, SIA is a much comfortable alternative than Jet Star. For an economy class, I can't complain much because I've got better seat, leg space, food and wine, as well as entertainment on board. Lastly, the flight attendants are attentive to the kids and even asked if we requested any kid's meal or toys.

Upon arriving at Perth International Airport, the first thing is to get the mobile data card so that you can enjoy the local data roaming services provided by Optus at a reasonable price. Next, we have to rent our car so that we can travel free and easy over the next few days. We rented a 4wd Toyota from Hertz, costing us a total of AUD800 inclusive of insurance, GPS and a child seat for 6 days.

First thing was to get some breakfast in the early morning at 7am before we headed to Caversham Wildlife Park. Having left with not much choice in the early morning, we had our breakfast at Macdonald instead.

1st stop @ Caversham Wildlife Park to see and feed the kangaroos, koala, wombat, sheep and horses at the farm, and  not forgetting the animal show where a performance was staged to show how the farm dogs chased the sheep back to its barn.

Caversham wildlife park is really a great place for the children to get close to the animals. My boy really enjoyed himself  in feeding the animals. Next to the wildlife park is the Whiteman Park where there are tram and train rides to take you around the bush land. However, please note that there are certain timing for the train rides. Therefore, it is always good to check in advance and make your planning. The park also housed a motor museum where kids can learn more about the motor vehicles in the 1960s. Within the park, there are plenty of playgrounds and picnic places for families to spend the day together.

Train ride at just AUD2.

Nice picnic area for family and playground for the kids.
It was a tiring day for us since we had little sleep since we boarded the mid-night flight the day before. We then checked in our apartment at brewer street, a chic and cosy apartment stay just a 25mins walk from Northbridge, Perth.

Simple exterior but so cosy and chic inside

Overall, the apartment stay at brewer street was a pleasant one. The beds were really comfortable and the staff is friendly and always ready to help. We felt like this a home away from home. The complimentary breakfast provided was pretty simple with only croissants, bread, cereal and fruits. At AUD10, you can choose to upgrade with bacon, sausages and eggs.

Our breakfast area, you can self-help to the cereal, yogurt and milk on the shelf.

A selection of Twining Tea

Oh, and did I mention to you that there are many Asian restaurants along the street at Northbridge. For the first time, I tried Chinese cuisine at Golden Emperor BBQ Roasted Chicken that is owned by a Hongkie and well, the soya oil chicken rice was really tasty. In fact, the chicken was very well cooked. However, I must say that at AUD10, the chicken rice is pretty expensive but at the same time, the portion is pretty huge as well for one person.

Seafood Fried Rice is pretty nice too !

Mauritius, An Island of Emotion

Mauritius, is an island nation in the Indian Ocean off the southeast coast of the African continent. Together with my Diva friend, we travelled to Mauritius in 2014 for our first ever girls trip or what we called as our "Elephant & Hippo Honeymoon". Although Mauritius is an island, the entire island is at least twice bigger than Singapore. Flights to Mauritius are somewhat limited. The airlines that flew to Mauritius include Air Mauritius, Emirates, British Airway and Air France. From Singapore, it took about 10 hours to reach Mauritius, including an hour transit at KL. Despite the long haul flight, I would say Mauritius is worth the visit at least once in your lifetime. I'm glad to have traveled with my Diva friend to this exotic place. Jeju, an island of love and romance Day 2

From its summery island beaches to its statuesque Hallasan Mountain, verdant O'Sulloc green tea fields, and its iconic Sunrise Peak @ Seongsan IIchubang, Jeju Island is an icon in South Korea. Not forgetting the famous Jeju tangerine, a citrus fruit lauded across Jeju island at large. Hence, we decided to go to a local tangerine farm to find out.  I couldn't quite remember the name of the tangerine farm but it took us quite some time to locate it. The farm was near a neighborhood where every household grew their own tangerine trees at their yard/garden. It was quite a sight as this was my first time seeing a tangerine tree.  Anyway, if you like oranges and the idea of trampling through the orchards in search of that perfect fruit, then you've got to come during the tangerine season (which is like from November onwards). Tangerine picking in my opinion is quite an inexpensive activity in Jeju. We googled this tangerine farm not far from the city where tourists and...

Mauritius, An Island Of Emotion @ Chamarel, Black River Gorges and great Seafood lunch

1. Seven Coloured Earth @ Charamel The Seven Coloured Earth is a geological formation and prominent tourist attraction found in the Chamarel Plain of Riviere Noire District in South-western Mauritius. How interesting!   It is in fact a relatively small area of sand dunes comprising sand of seven distinct colours (i.e. red, brown, violet, green, blue, purple and yellow). In fact, the colours are dependent on the sunlight. The main feature of the place is that since these differently coloured sands spontaneously settle in different layers, dunes acquire a surrealistic, striped colouring. At the entrance of the Seven Coloured Earth, there is this beautiful Chamarel Waterfall. Although this is not the most magnificent waterfall that I've seen, this waterfall is the highest in Mauritius.
