"Shuhe" old town is a more quiet town as compared to Lijiang old town. The architecture design of the wooden shop houses are also distinctly different between these two towns even though they are both located within Yunnan province.
In fact, I enjoyed the tranquility that surrounds the Shuhe old town. In comparison, Lijiang old town is much more crowded with tourists from all over the world.
1. Tea Boutique Hotel
We stayed at this amazing Tea Boutique Hotel at Lijiang Old Town, Lion Peak Hill. The tea-themed boutique features elegantly decorated, large size panorama view of the world-old heritage old town. Our only problem was in getting our luggage to the hotel, as the driver had parked his vehicle over the other side of Lion Hill. Luckily, the hotel host was kind enough to fetch us and helped us with the luggage. It was a strenuous work-out for us as we climbed the steep rocky steps to reach the hotel.
We stayed at one of the suites known as Dian Red, located on the 2nd floor. The suite is spacious, with a separate living room, bedroom, and best of all, a balcony with a panaromic view over the old town.

2. Horse Riding and Boat Ride
Horse-riding at Lijiang is definitely a must try experience. We signed on the horse riding activity where we get to ride the horses through the forest for approximately 2 hours (guided by a professional) before arriving at a boat shed for our leisure boat ride at this beautiful lake (known as Lashihai) for 30 min. The entire experience was awesome even though, I felt really nervous riding on the horse which can be temperament at times.
3. Guangyin (Goddess of Mercy) Gorge
Guangyin (Goddess of Mercy) Gorge, is situated in the utmost south of Lijiang and near the risky pass of Guanpo on Dali (Dali-Lijiang) Road. It features beautiful landscapes, waterfalls, folk costumes, Naxi villages and religion.
There is a mini-electric fun ride through the gorges. It was certainly thrilling to take the ride through the narrow gorges.

4. Heilongtan Park
Jade Spring Park, also named as Heilongtan Park (literally means the Black Dragon Pool Park), is first built in 1737, and is located in the north of Lijiang old town. The pool in the park is said to covers an a huge area and is clean as jade, reflecting the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.
Unfortunately, Lijiang experienced severe drought and the pool was dried up during our visit. It was a disappointment. Nonetheless, we had a nice walk at the park and enjoyed the cooling weather.

5. In love with Lijiang old Town
Touring the old town of Lijiang is definitely a must because the entire town is so charming with its ancient architectures.
We even signed up a photography package with a studio at the old town at unbelievably cheap price of SGD150. The photography session entitled us to 2 sets of traditional costumes (including hair setup and makeup) for a full 2 hours of photography at this charming old town.
Both my hubby and I had great fun posing in front of the camera with the ancient beautiful backdrop of the old town.
