A journey to celebrate 16 years of friendship @ Yilan

1. Seafood lunch @ Su Ao Harbor

It was quite a journey , almost 2 hours drive away from Hualien to Yilan. Yilan is situated near the coastal area and hence is famous for its seafood. Having seafood lunch or dinner is not to be missed if you are at Yilan.

The driver drove us to Su Ao Harbor for our seafood lunch. There were several restaurants at the harbor that sold more all less similar variety of seafood.

We ordered a set lunch menu for 6 pax and add one more lobster to the meal. The steamed prawns, tow kay crabs, pan-fried Ge Li (super sweet) and of the course the lobster were superior delicacies. I cannot remember the price for the meal but vaguely recalled that the price was reasonable for such a fulfilling spread of seafood. The waitress highly recommended us a dish of stir-fried seaweed. However, the taste wasn't much to my liking.

2. To Jiao Xi

After a sumptuous meal, the driver took us to Jiao Xi township which is famous for its hot spring. The town's natural underground hot springs is akin to Mickey Mouse @ Disneyland.

There are plenty of public springs and private springs mainly offered in the hotels. The hot springs  has a weak alkaline base and its water is odorless, with an average temperature of 50 degree Celsius.

We tried one of the public hot spring and the water was so hot when we first put our legs into the spring water. After a few minutes, we slowly get used to the temperature and felt quite comfortable to dip our foot in the hot spring.

3. To Tou Cheng, Sealuv Hotel

The purpose for visiting Tou Cheng was because of the highly raved Sealuv Hotel that is located just next to the beautiful "Wai Ao" beach, famous for its black sandy beach.

Sealuv hotel really lived up to its name as recommended in many of the travel programme.  It was indeed a 5 star minsu owned and operated by 2 families. This was probably one of the top places to embrace the familiar Taiwanese hospitality at their very best.

With its sea-front location and unbeatable views of turtle island, Sealuv is an attraction of its own. Staying at one of their Mediterranean-inspired loft s along the Wai-Ao beach probably transported us to the Greek island of Santorini and Mykonos.

Beautiful Sealuv Hotel

The family room (known as "Diana") that we stayed in is luxurious and has everything we need. At the door, there is an ecological pond for us to dip our foot as we enjoyed the seaview.  The living room has a large comfortable sofa  and equipped with a 42 inch TV and Blue-Ray Home Theatre System. The bedroom also has its own 42 inch plasma TV and  DVD player.

The bathroom is another luxury for us. It has a mineral stone bathing pool, a steam room and rain shower. Also, Sealuv provides the guests with Germany Kenipp Herbal Bath Essential Oils/ Crabtree & Evelyn and Loccitane toiletries.

The interior design of the room is richly painted in cooling color of blue, white and yellow to give a warm and cosy ambience.

Although a one night stay cost us almost SGD500, we thoroughly enjoy ourselves at Sealuv Hotel.

If you are staying at Sealuv, the seafood dinner is not to be missed. Sealuv pride itself for using the freshest ingredients for the seafood dinner, where the seafood were caught from the sea of Turtle Island. Reservation for the dinner must be made in advance.

My hubby and I opted for the seafood dinner while the rest of them decided to have their dinner at Luo Dong night market which was 15 mins drive away from Sealuv.

The seafood dinner was a luxurious spread. The sashimi was at its freshest and I couldn't stop complimenting how well the grilled red sea bass was. Indeed, the culinary was divine and it was the best meal that I've had in my 6 days of the trip.

For our dinner on the 2nd night, the host was kind enough to order Tou Cheng famous fried chicken for us. It was really finger licking good! Another of the highlight was the delicious breakfast provided by the hotel. We had western breakfast on the 1st day and the authentic Taiwanese breakfast specially prepared by the host on the 2nd day. The coffee served was great too. It's an enjoyable experience to have our breakfast at Sealuv, facing the boundless ocean and listening to the soothing symphony from the Pacific Ocean.

There are several activities for you to do if you decided not to relax at Sealuv hotel for the entire day. Here is my recommended list of how you can spend the day:
  • Leisure stroll at the beach to view sunrise or sunset
  • Experience fun-filled outdoor activities such as paragliding, visits to the Lan Yang Marine Museum, cruising around turtle island or you can choose to explore the island too.
  • Leisure walk at Tou Cheng Afforestation park where the scenic view is said to be absolutely stunning. Upon climbing up the hill, travelers can treat themselves to the best aromatic coffee @ Yilan.
  • Scenic views at the Northeast regions just beside the mountains and sea where you will be able to see the towering cliffs, rugged rocks and glittering golden sand, colourful marine eco life and so on.
Unfortunately for us, we were only able to complete 2 of the above activities due to the rainy season. It was a pity that we couldn't try paragliding or take a cruise to the turtle island.

4. Lan Yang Museum

Situated just mins from Sealuv hotel is the Lan Yang Museum, with its unique architecture and boosts a wide variety of materials and places for learning, viewing and appreciating the rich ecological marine life @ Yilan. It was a nice place to hang around even if you are not keen to tour the museum at an additional fee.

It was an awesome trip to Sealuv. We all had fun despite the rainy season.

Mauritius, An Island of Emotion

Mauritius, is an island nation in the Indian Ocean off the southeast coast of the African continent. Together with my Diva friend, we travelled to Mauritius in 2014 for our first ever girls trip or what we called as our "Elephant & Hippo Honeymoon". Although Mauritius is an island, the entire island is at least twice bigger than Singapore. Flights to Mauritius are somewhat limited. The airlines that flew to Mauritius include Air Mauritius, Emirates, British Airway and Air France. From Singapore, it took about 10 hours to reach Mauritius, including an hour transit at KL. Despite the long haul flight, I would say Mauritius is worth the visit at least once in your lifetime. I'm glad to have traveled with my Diva friend to this exotic place. Jeju, an island of love and romance Day 2

From its summery island beaches to its statuesque Hallasan Mountain, verdant O'Sulloc green tea fields, and its iconic Sunrise Peak @ Seongsan IIchubang, Jeju Island is an icon in South Korea. Not forgetting the famous Jeju tangerine, a citrus fruit lauded across Jeju island at large. Hence, we decided to go to a local tangerine farm to find out.  I couldn't quite remember the name of the tangerine farm but it took us quite some time to locate it. The farm was near a neighborhood where every household grew their own tangerine trees at their yard/garden. It was quite a sight as this was my first time seeing a tangerine tree.  Anyway, if you like oranges and the idea of trampling through the orchards in search of that perfect fruit, then you've got to come during the tangerine season (which is like from November onwards). Tangerine picking in my opinion is quite an inexpensive activity in Jeju. We googled this tangerine farm not far from the city where tourists and...

Mauritius, An Island Of Emotion @ Chamarel, Black River Gorges and great Seafood lunch

1. Seven Coloured Earth @ Charamel The Seven Coloured Earth is a geological formation and prominent tourist attraction found in the Chamarel Plain of Riviere Noire District in South-western Mauritius. How interesting!   It is in fact a relatively small area of sand dunes comprising sand of seven distinct colours (i.e. red, brown, violet, green, blue, purple and yellow). In fact, the colours are dependent on the sunlight. The main feature of the place is that since these differently coloured sands spontaneously settle in different layers, dunes acquire a surrealistic, striped colouring. At the entrance of the Seven Coloured Earth, there is this beautiful Chamarel Waterfall. Although this is not the most magnificent waterfall that I've seen, this waterfall is the highest in Mauritius.
