To Birdie Paradise @ Jurong Bird Park

It's been more than 20 years since I last visited Jurong Bird Park with my parents when I was just a little girl. And, 20 years later today, I'm visiting the park with my parents, hubby and children. My memories of Jurong Bird Park was the lush vegetation that surrounded the park and some of the bird species such as the flamingo and ostrich.

Jurong Bird Park underwent several renovation that changed the entire landscape of the park in the last few years. Now, the park is made prettier not only with the lush vegetation but also a variety of fauna. The park even has its man-made waterfall and open concept aviary where certain bird species can roam about freely. As Singapore celebrates its 50th Anniversary this year, all citizens above 60 years old shall have free entry to the park.

The only downside in visiting the park is the unbearably hot weather that makes us feel so uncomfortable to walk around the park, especially for the little ones.

We managed to catch the High Flyers Show upon entering the park at 11am. The show featured an exhilarating line-up of some of the best-loved birds such as Parrots, Hornbills, Hyacinth Macaw, the Pelicans and the Flamingo.

The crowd cheered as the parrots go beak-to-beak in a race against time to display their speed and agility. Alfred was also awed by the parrots dramatic fly-bys and sing-along session. The show also featured the Yellow-Naped Amazon bird that sings in three languages.

The ending finale of the show is really a good one, featuring a grand finale of colours and excitement as one of the world's largest number of birds tale centre stage.

Tram Ride

As the hot weather was really not suitable for long walks around the park, we hopped onto the trams for a ride around the park and visited the aviary waterfall, which is Singapore's one and only man-made waterfall.

Well, for those who have seen a real waterfall, you might really be able to tell that the waterfall in the park is man-made. Nonetheless, my kids were awed with the thundering fall of the water from great height. And, did I also mentioned that the spot where the waterfall was located was the coolest in the entire park.

We stopped for our lunch at the "Birds of Play" which featured a large playground for the kids, including a water playground.

The children really had a wonderful time playing in the playground. Lastly, we visited the penguin coast before we called it for the day. It's a pity that we missed the feeding time for the penguins. If you really want to have some feeding session for the kids, it's always good to check out the feeling time slot so that you can plan your itinerary wisely.

My family really enjoyed the park visit as you can tell from this picture

Well, I'm really enjoying my day with my family, even though, the damn weather really makes our stroll in the park a hellish experience! The park is really different from it was 20 years ago. I would say that though the park is small, it's definitely a great place for kids to know more about the birds.

We ended the day with a sumptuous dinner at Peach Blossom @ NTU. My ex-campus school canteen underwent a major revamp such that the entire canteen A has now been transformed into a upmarket hang-out place for the students, with MAC, KFC, Pizza Hut and even Starbucks!

This pork is super tender, very well cooked! Yummy

This fish is the main highlight. I would say this is the best braised fish that I've had, served with smooth silky tofu and mushroom and yam!

Mauritius, An Island of Emotion

Mauritius, is an island nation in the Indian Ocean off the southeast coast of the African continent. Together with my Diva friend, we travelled to Mauritius in 2014 for our first ever girls trip or what we called as our "Elephant & Hippo Honeymoon". Although Mauritius is an island, the entire island is at least twice bigger than Singapore. Flights to Mauritius are somewhat limited. The airlines that flew to Mauritius include Air Mauritius, Emirates, British Airway and Air France. From Singapore, it took about 10 hours to reach Mauritius, including an hour transit at KL. Despite the long haul flight, I would say Mauritius is worth the visit at least once in your lifetime. I'm glad to have traveled with my Diva friend to this exotic place.
