Picturesque Stanley

Stanley is a small town that lies in the far north west of Tasmania. It is uniquely located on a small neck of land with the famous volcanic landform of 'The Nut' at its head. This location makes the town a very picturesque place to visit and definitely worth our drive from Cradle Mountain.

We spent our afternoon and evening to explore Stanley and I am surprised that there was so much to cover in this small town. First up, we headed straight to the Nut, a top attraction for tourists to visit. The Nut is the remains of an ancient volcanic plug with a large, mostly flat surface that can be navigated on foot.

There are two options to reach the top of the Nut. You can either walk up (the track will take around 20mins) or take the chairlift where the ride will last a swift 5 mins. We opted for the chairlift since we wanted to spend some quality time at the summit. The chairlift ride was pleasant and relaxing, with plenty of fantastic photo opportunities along the way. Once we reached the summit, we were greeted by 360 degree views of the surrounding area. Absolutely stunning is the best descriptive word for this view. There is a circuit track for us to take a leisure walk. Be sure to stop and capture breathtaking views of Stanley, the neighboring farmland, Bass Strait, and the Rocky Cape National Park. We had the most enjoyable walk on the summit and we easily spent 2.5 hrs soaking up the gorgeous view the Nut has to offer.

After we descended from the Nut, we travelled to  beautiful Stanley town, which still houses many heritage houses. I love the tranquility of this old town adorned with colorful heritage cottages.

We were quite hungry and decided to have lunch at a restaurant in town. Since the restaurant closes around 2pm, our options were somewhat limited. Fortunately, we managed to get a table at Hursey Seafoods, where we enjoyed an incredible seafood platter. The oysters were freshly shucked, and the fish, perfectly battered.

We then made our way to our charming accommodation for the night at Forth, and I can hardly contain my excitement! Nestled in the heart of a stunning agricultural landscape, this delightful tiny barn house exudes rustic charm. Despite its modest size, it boasts a cozy ambiance and all the modern conveniences one could wish for, including a flat screen TV, a quaint kitchenette perfect for whipping up simple meals, and a sleek bathroom featuring a hot shower that promises a refreshing cleanse. And the best part? We were welcomed by breathtaking views of sprawling green fields that stretched out before us, painting a perfect picture of serene countryside life. How I wish I have a holiday home like this!

Mauritius, An Island of Emotion

Mauritius, is an island nation in the Indian Ocean off the southeast coast of the African continent. Together with my Diva friend, we travelled to Mauritius in 2014 for our first ever girls trip or what we called as our "Elephant & Hippo Honeymoon". Although Mauritius is an island, the entire island is at least twice bigger than Singapore. Flights to Mauritius are somewhat limited. The airlines that flew to Mauritius include Air Mauritius, Emirates, British Airway and Air France. From Singapore, it took about 10 hours to reach Mauritius, including an hour transit at KL. Despite the long haul flight, I would say Mauritius is worth the visit at least once in your lifetime. I'm glad to have traveled with my Diva friend to this exotic place. Day 6: Grindelwald and Jungfraujoch Top of Europe

We woke up to a pleasant day with perfect weather. It was no longer rainy and instead rays of sunshine brightened up the entire  town of Grindelwald. The view was perfect right from the moment I opened my room's window. Before I continue with my blog on our journey for the day, let me introduce you to our cosy accommodation in Grindelwald, Hotel Lauberhorn, located within a short distance from the main train station. If you are too lazy to walk, fret not because there are buses available from the train station to reach the hotel. What I really like about this hotel is the bright and cheery exterior, well decorated outdoor garden and lounge, lift in the hotel to reach your rooms (this was indeed a surprise) and lastly very nice view of the mountain coupled with yummy croissants for breakfast. We had a corner room to ourselves without any balcony because the hotel was fully booked during our visit. The room was sparkly clean with modern bathroom facilities and even a heater....
