YOLO New Zealand @Day 11 Lake Tekapo & Mt Cook

Today, we signed up for a day trip to Lake Tekapo and Mount Cook from Christchurch. Lake Tekapo is approximately 3-4 hrs drive Southwest of Christchurch in the Mackenzie Basin. The township faces north across the remarkable turquoise colored lake to the mountainous drama of the Southern Alps. Lake Tekapo gets its intense milky-turquoise colour from the fine rock-flour, ground by glaciers which is suspended in the water.

Self-driving or travelling by coach is the easiest way to travel in New Zealand, especially if you are exploring the outskirts of city area. Although the journey to our destination was long, my eyes were glued to the windows at all times. The scenery was too good to be missed as we passed the fields full of grazing deer, pigs, sheeps, cows.

Lake Tekapo is still one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. Snow capped mountains are reflected in the bluest water imgainable. The lake's piercing blue and with the combination of the sunlight, created Lake Tekapo's unique hue. Absolutely gorgeous is the word to describe this place.

There is a little pretty church - Church of Good Shepherd facing the lake which made a pretty intimate and cosy place for a wedding. Also, we were in time to see the blooming lupin flowers by the lake which add colors to the ever blue lake.

We then headed further and were greeted by another turquoise blue lake, Lake Pukaki. We were given 15 mins to stroll by the lake and take some pictures. I would say that the shade of blue at Lake Pukaki was gorgeous.

After Pukaki, we traveled further to our last sightseeing destination, Mount Cook National Park. It was a pity that we didn't have enough time to explore the park. It would be good to stay overnight (there's a hotel next to the National Park) so that we can have plenty of time to explore and hike around the National Park. Anyway, I will definitely return again for my hike in this park. Seeing Mount Cook is such a joy. It's a sunny day and we can see the magnificent mount cook before us!

Lake Tekapo, Lake Pukaki and Mount Cook can be visted as a day trip from Christchurch. However, to really enjoy the scenery, it would be advisable to perhaps stay for 2 days at Mount Cook because the scenery and hike in the National Park would be a spectacular and memorable one. I will return again!

Mauritius, An Island of Emotion

Mauritius, is an island nation in the Indian Ocean off the southeast coast of the African continent. Together with my Diva friend, we travelled to Mauritius in 2014 for our first ever girls trip or what we called as our "Elephant & Hippo Honeymoon". Although Mauritius is an island, the entire island is at least twice bigger than Singapore. Flights to Mauritius are somewhat limited. The airlines that flew to Mauritius include Air Mauritius, Emirates, British Airway and Air France. From Singapore, it took about 10 hours to reach Mauritius, including an hour transit at KL. Despite the long haul flight, I would say Mauritius is worth the visit at least once in your lifetime. I'm glad to have traveled with my Diva friend to this exotic place. Mauritius, An Island of Emotion @ The Sacred Lake

1. Trou Aux Cerfs   Trou Aux Cerfs is a dormant volcano with a well defined cone and crater. It is 605m high and located in Curepipe, Mauritius.   Our guide drove us to the viewpoint where we can have a glimpse of this so-called dormant crater. I would say that it doesn't quite look like a volcano crater. However, the surrounding view of the mountainous range was stunning. Grand Bassin   Ganga Talao, also known as "The Grand Bassin" is a crater lake situated in a secluded mountain area in the district of Savanne. It is considered as the most sacred Hindu place in Mauritius. There is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and other Gods including Hanuman, Lakshmi, and others along the Grand Bassin.   The design of the Hindu temple is quite simple and not as elaborate as other Hindu temples. The temple has...

Glamping and not camping

It was Chinese New Year, yet again. We've visited our relatives in the first and second day, and considering that it was too cold for the kids to travel to countries such as Hong Kong or Taiwan, we decided to just go for a short trip at Bintan again. This was Kevan's first maiden trip to Bintan with us and he couldn't contain his excitement when we arrived at the jetty and board the "Bintan Lagoon" vessel to Bintan.   The sea was really rough and choppy and many passengers vomited including Kevan and my mum. Kevan had vomited all over himself and partially on my hand. Luckily, I've brought extra shirt for him to change. We were glad to have arrive at Bintan because the sea journey was really uncomfortable.   There were many people visiting Bintan during the festive season. Luckily, we chose to board the vessel in the morning and hence arrived quite early. Check in was therefore not as slow as we had expected.   We then looked for the signboard ...
