Today, we signed up for a day trip to Lake Tekapo and Mount Cook from Christchurch. Lake Tekapo is approximately 3-4 hrs drive Southwest of Christchurch in the Mackenzie Basin. The township faces north across the remarkable turquoise colored lake to the mountainous drama of the Southern Alps. Lake Tekapo gets its intense milky-turquoise colour from the fine rock-flour, ground by glaciers which is suspended in the water. Self-driving or travelling by coach is the easiest way to travel in New Zealand, especially if you are exploring the outskirts of city area. Although the journey to our destination was long, my eyes were glued to the windows at all times. The scenery was too good to be missed as we passed the fields full of grazing deer, pigs, sheeps, cows. Lake Tekapo is still one of the most beautiful places I have ever been.
