Staycation @ M social

As the Covid-19 Pandemic rages on, our hope of vacationing overseas also diminished with time. Nevertheless, life goes on and we have to make do with other alternatives. Since we were given the Singapore Rediscovery vouchers, we will use it to the fullest.

After searching through Klook and Traveloka for various activities, we decided to use our vouchers for some great deals -  a visit to Madam Tussauds  which comes with a cable car ride to and from Sentosa island and a lunch at restaurant Arbora located at the hilltop of  Mount Faber. Separately, we also used our voucher for a one night staycation at a boutique hotel, M Social located in the quaint Robertson Quay.

Strangely, it was my first time taking a cable car ride in Singapore and I had to say that the experience was indeed nothing as compared to the cable car rides that I've had overseas in countries like New Zealand, Switzerland, China and erm Genting Highland. Well, don't get me wrong, I do think that our local cable car ride is decently comfortable but what I feel is really lacking is the spectacular view and not to mention, the shortest ride ever.

Within 5 mins or so, we arrived at Madam Tussauds. This is a museum that contain all the life-size wax figurines of famous celebrities from Hollywood to Bollywood, as well as notable politicians and sports stars. Some of the wax figurines include my favorite footballer, C Ronaldo and Songtress, Taylor Swift. The wax-like figurines look very life-like and my dear friend enjoy taking pictures with all of them. The museum is not big and in fact, we are done within 45mins time.

We then proceed via cable car ride to Mount Faber to enjoy a quiet and relaxing lunch. It was my first time visiting Mount Faber and personally, it a great place to chill and enjoy the spectacular view of Singapore.

To be honest, I was surprised that the food served at this restaurant was surprisingly good. Perhaps, I will return again for dinning at sunset!

Our next stop is M Social Hotel, a boutique hotel that is located at Clark Quay. Newly opened in 2016, its main draw are the loft-style rooms which create a unique atmosphere in this space-deprived city. While the room is really small, it was however spread over two floors and nicely decorated with designer furniture, usage of stainless steel coupled with dark wooden frames and a semi-industrial wall finishing. Though the room is small, the bed was however super comfy. Due to space constraint, the pool was small and definitely not impressive. The location of the hotel was however a plus point as within a short walk we are able to reach great world city shopping complex with lots of supermarkets and restaurants. There is even a Japanese supermarket that sell all sorts of Japanese products. Also within the vicinity is fort canning hill. We had a nice walk in the morning after our breakfast and chanced upon a great spot for photo-taking - The Tree Tunnel.

The fun part was the cocktail making session which was included in the hotel package. We were introduced to different types of alcohol followed by structured instructions on how to concoct our very own cocktail. We even attempted to torch our very own caramel lime! I ended up concocting 2 glasses of cocktail due to my misjudgment of over-adding the ingredients. As described by my friend, "Sharing is caring!".

Lastly, to end off our short vacation, we had high-tea at Arteastique. The pastries and snacks were so-so considering that the price is only $48 for 2 pax. What I really like is the lychee tea, smoothing and yet flavorful. The concept of pouring my tea from a perfume bottle is intriguing.

Mauritius, An Island of Emotion

Mauritius, is an island nation in the Indian Ocean off the southeast coast of the African continent. Together with my Diva friend, we travelled to Mauritius in 2014 for our first ever girls trip or what we called as our "Elephant & Hippo Honeymoon". Although Mauritius is an island, the entire island is at least twice bigger than Singapore. Flights to Mauritius are somewhat limited. The airlines that flew to Mauritius include Air Mauritius, Emirates, British Airway and Air France. From Singapore, it took about 10 hours to reach Mauritius, including an hour transit at KL. Despite the long haul flight, I would say Mauritius is worth the visit at least once in your lifetime. I'm glad to have traveled with my Diva friend to this exotic place. Jeju, an island of love and romance Day 2

From its summery island beaches to its statuesque Hallasan Mountain, verdant O'Sulloc green tea fields, and its iconic Sunrise Peak @ Seongsan IIchubang, Jeju Island is an icon in South Korea. Not forgetting the famous Jeju tangerine, a citrus fruit lauded across Jeju island at large. Hence, we decided to go to a local tangerine farm to find out.  I couldn't quite remember the name of the tangerine farm but it took us quite some time to locate it. The farm was near a neighborhood where every household grew their own tangerine trees at their yard/garden. It was quite a sight as this was my first time seeing a tangerine tree.  Anyway, if you like oranges and the idea of trampling through the orchards in search of that perfect fruit, then you've got to come during the tangerine season (which is like from November onwards). Tangerine picking in my opinion is quite an inexpensive activity in Jeju. We googled this tangerine farm not far from the city where tourists and...

Mauritius, An Island Of Emotion @ Chamarel, Black River Gorges and great Seafood lunch

1. Seven Coloured Earth @ Charamel The Seven Coloured Earth is a geological formation and prominent tourist attraction found in the Chamarel Plain of Riviere Noire District in South-western Mauritius. How interesting!   It is in fact a relatively small area of sand dunes comprising sand of seven distinct colours (i.e. red, brown, violet, green, blue, purple and yellow). In fact, the colours are dependent on the sunlight. The main feature of the place is that since these differently coloured sands spontaneously settle in different layers, dunes acquire a surrealistic, striped colouring. At the entrance of the Seven Coloured Earth, there is this beautiful Chamarel Waterfall. Although this is not the most magnificent waterfall that I've seen, this waterfall is the highest in Mauritius.
