Unique Minsu @ Taiwan

#1: Leofoo Resort

Situated in Guanshi, Hsinchu County, "Leofoo Ressort Guanshi" is adjacent to the Leofoo village Theme Park, and Asia's first resort that mimic the Safari Park in South Africa. Within the resort, there are over 150 rooms modeled after African Safari styles. FYI, the resort is only a short ride of 30 mins from Tao Yuan International Airport and you can arrange for a shuttle with the resort for pick-up at a fee of 2000TWD.

Each rooms in the resort is tastefully decorated with bright colored walls, perfected with paintings of Giraffe and baobab trees. If you traveled as a family like us (7 people), you should choose the Kenya Greenery Room, a lofted room with high ceiling over-looking the Safari Park. The kids were really excited to see the animals roaming about in the enclosure through the room's large windows. The room also comes with a huge balcony for us to view the animals in the open air. However, the stench from the enclosure was a little too over-whelming for us.

During our visit, we saw flamingos, white rhinoceros, zebra, ring tailed lemurs, Sulcata tortoises, North Africa bearded goats and of course the superstar of the resort, Giraffe which only came out for feeding at specific timing. While there are not many animals, it is good enough to keep the kids entertained.

The resort only has 2 restaurants and I would say that the food is pretty average and yet pricey (costing over S$200 for 4 adults and 3 children). The complimentary breakfast is kept simple with toast and scrambled eggs. As the resort is quite secluded, there are no other nearby restaurants and we didn't want to head out of the resort in the dark.

Night time was cooling but due to the natural surrounding, there were a lot of mosquitoes and hence we couldn't stay out too long at our balcony. FYI, insect repellent is a must if you are bringing your kids to this resort.

The resort offers a number of activities to keep your children entertained such as feeding the lemurs, scrubbing the turtles, feeding the goats, walking with the rhinoceros and of course watching and feeding the lions (not for the faint-hearted). However, these activities are not cheap and hence we decided to give it a miss.

Overall, we have an enjoyable stay at the resort but the price is slightly on the higher side at around $800+ a night excluding dinner. As the resort is eco-friendly,  no toothbrush are provided which is a disappointment considering the price I've paid.

#2: DiuDiuDang Minsu @ Yilan

DiuDiuDang Minsu is located at Yilan County, DongShan Town. Pretty secluded but yet a short drive away from Luo Dong night market, Meihua Lake and the National Arts Centre.

This guest house is specially built for the kids as it is fully equipped outdoor slides, outdoor pool, sandpit, fish pond for fishing and a backyard where kids can enjoy the plenty of car rides and even train ride atop a train track. How cool was that. The house even comes with a indoor mini amusement park which is of course every kid's paradise.

The minsu offers  several rooms, ranging from couples to family rooms. The best part is that for family rooms, there are some that come with a double decker bed with slide and a bathtub, perfect for a steamy bath. The only down side is that bathroom is very slippery as the floor is made of marble tiles which is way dangerous for kids and adults. Not to mention, there are quite a number of mosquitoes as well given that the guest house is surrounded by padi rice fields.

Nevertheless, the guest house is really great for the kids, especially the spacious pool where kids can row the boats or enjoy their floats or slide into the water. To make our stay even more enjoyable, the staff are really very friendly and made us feel so homely.

I would really recommend this guest house to those with kids! However, this resort is really quite secluded and hence it's best to communicate with the driver for the direction. Nevertheless, I really enjoy the tranquil surrounding.

Mauritius, An Island of Emotion

Mauritius, is an island nation in the Indian Ocean off the southeast coast of the African continent. Together with my Diva friend, we travelled to Mauritius in 2014 for our first ever girls trip or what we called as our "Elephant & Hippo Honeymoon". Although Mauritius is an island, the entire island is at least twice bigger than Singapore. Flights to Mauritius are somewhat limited. The airlines that flew to Mauritius include Air Mauritius, Emirates, British Airway and Air France. From Singapore, it took about 10 hours to reach Mauritius, including an hour transit at KL. Despite the long haul flight, I would say Mauritius is worth the visit at least once in your lifetime. I'm glad to have traveled with my Diva friend to this exotic place. Jeju, an island of love and romance Day 2

From its summery island beaches to its statuesque Hallasan Mountain, verdant O'Sulloc green tea fields, and its iconic Sunrise Peak @ Seongsan IIchubang, Jeju Island is an icon in South Korea. Not forgetting the famous Jeju tangerine, a citrus fruit lauded across Jeju island at large. Hence, we decided to go to a local tangerine farm to find out.  I couldn't quite remember the name of the tangerine farm but it took us quite some time to locate it. The farm was near a neighborhood where every household grew their own tangerine trees at their yard/garden. It was quite a sight as this was my first time seeing a tangerine tree.  Anyway, if you like oranges and the idea of trampling through the orchards in search of that perfect fruit, then you've got to come during the tangerine season (which is like from November onwards). Tangerine picking in my opinion is quite an inexpensive activity in Jeju. We googled this tangerine farm not far from the city where tourists and...

Mauritius, An Island Of Emotion @ Chamarel, Black River Gorges and great Seafood lunch

1. Seven Coloured Earth @ Charamel The Seven Coloured Earth is a geological formation and prominent tourist attraction found in the Chamarel Plain of Riviere Noire District in South-western Mauritius. How interesting!   It is in fact a relatively small area of sand dunes comprising sand of seven distinct colours (i.e. red, brown, violet, green, blue, purple and yellow). In fact, the colours are dependent on the sunlight. The main feature of the place is that since these differently coloured sands spontaneously settle in different layers, dunes acquire a surrealistic, striped colouring. At the entrance of the Seven Coloured Earth, there is this beautiful Chamarel Waterfall. Although this is not the most magnificent waterfall that I've seen, this waterfall is the highest in Mauritius.
