Disneyland + Hong Kong

This was my first family trip with my younger boy and parents and they were very excited about it. For me, this will be a long awaited break from the hectic work life. Hong Kong, a crowded and yet vibrant city, filled with Michelin Stars restaurants and cafes got me droopy. I could imagine myself slurping the hot creamy lean meat Cantonese porridge, sipping the chilled milk tea, and biting into the sandwich toast...and the list of food goes on. In fact, I've read so much about the highly raved must eat dishes in Hong Kong such that I have the urge to fly there ASAP to appease my appetite.

Time could be a constraint for my food exploration since I'll be stuck at Disney for 2 days and bringing 2 young kids around, I know that it will be tough for me to embark on my food hunt, We'll see how it goes then because I'll be back in Hong Kong for the food again. In fact, this was my 2nd time visiting Hong Kong.

Our journey to Hong Kong on board SIA A350 was wonderful. I'm amazed by the spacious leg space for economy class, the touch screen TV and the WiFi facilities. My kids truly enjoyed themselves with the in-flight entertainment such as cartoon movies and games.

Waiting for boarding and outside was drizzling

Happy with his first flight experience
Arriving at HK International Airport, we made our way to purchase the Optus card similar to our Ezlink card to access the MTR (similar to our MRT) network system. However, we were told that travelling to Disneyland from the airport will be cheaper via the Green cab, hence we decided to take cabs to Disney. In Hong Kong, one cab is only limited to 5 passengers, Since we have 6 passengers, we decided to split into 2 cabs.

Upon reaching Disney Hollywood Hotel, we checked in our luggage before heading to the cable car ride to Nongping Village. It was getting windy and I was told by the hotel staff that there are 2 typhoons in October. Although one of the typhoon had just ended, another would be hitting the city in 2 days time. I was distraught with this updates. Soon, it started to drizzle as we made our way up in the crystal cable car to Nongping Village. Do note that the cable car ride tickets can be purchased at Tung Chung Cable Car Ride Station, just 3 mins walk from Tung Chung MTR.
Excited to hitch on the cable car ride

NongPing is the gateway to Tai-O fishing village where the view can be quite amazing during sunsets, However, due to the gloomy weather, we thought that it may not be suitable to visit Tai-O fishing village, famous for its Tai_O Stilt houses. Hence, we gave it a miss and continue to stroll around the village. NongPing village is pretty small and the prettiest monument would be the magnificent Buddha statute sitting atop the flight of stairway.

We posed for pictures along the stairs and we didn't climb up due to the rain. It's a pity because the view up there would definitely be a spectacular sight, We completed the trip in 1 hours time and had some home-made bean curb at one of the stall before heading back to Disney.

Disney Hollywood Rm

We were all exhausted from a day of travel and soon all of us fall into a deep sleep after catching glimpse of the fireworks from our hotel room.

The 2nd day is a fun-filled day specially for the kids at Disneyland. The weather is however horrible at 30 degree. The queue for some of the rides are long and we were all feeling uncomfortably sweaty. Really not fun to be baking under the hot sun. Even queuing for the photo-taking sessions with the Disney characters can be such a chore.

The Disney Halloween Special Dance Parade

It's a pity that the car ride at Tomorrowland had ceased operation. My boys would have love the car ride, It's also unfortunate that we bought a 2 day park ticket but could not utilized the 2nd day visit due to Typhoon. Consequently, we didn't get the chance to Visit Toy Story theme park attraction. Overall, HK Disneyland does not really impress me as the rides are getting worn out. The food is also pricey and the quality isn't up to my expectation.

And so we ended our Disney adventure and left for the city while the alarm was raised to grade 8 typhoon. Luckily for us, we were sheltered while travelling in the MTR train and our hotel was directly linked to Mongkok East train station and Moko shopping mall.
Bye Bye Disney

Our Family Room at Royal Plaza Hotel

Firstly, I am so satisfied with the hotel services and the room facilities at Royal Plaza Hotel, The location is greatly accessible to many streets - Nathan Rd, Fa Yuen Market and Woman's Street. Truly great location within the shopping hub. The bathroom is so spacious and the room itself is of decent space to accommodate 6 of us. We had a wonderful stay and there isn't anything for us to complain. I will definitely stay here again for my return trip. To top it off, the airport shuttle bus is just outside the hotel to fetch us direct to Kowloon Airport Express Station. The only downside is the erratic weather. Rainy on one day and super hot on the other day.

Much Blogged Mui Kee Porridge
I can only say that the porridge at Mui Kee is simply over-rated. It wasn't too bad but certainly over-rated. I've tasted much better ones that this.

Super Nice
Kau Kee Beef Noodle @ Sheung Wan  is highly raved about by many bloggers and I really must say that it's worth the wait for this bowl of beef noodle. Luckily for us, the wait was not long and in a while we were whisked into the shop and placed our order with the waiter. That thick broth, tender beef that melts instantly is just too heavenly. I would definitely return for this on my next visit, The only downside is that we have to climb a good 5 min slope to reach the restaurant.

Tram to the peak

The Peak
We visited the Peak which is accessible via the Peak Tram located within minutes walk from Central MTR station. From the Peak Tram station, you can purchased the 2 in 1 tram ride + Madame Tussauds Wax Museum, The museum has over 100 incredibly lifelike wax figures of Hollywood famous celebrities, Hong Kong and Korea Stars, as well as the Royal Family. They are just too real!

Nice birdnest mango dessert at Xu Liu Xian

Red Bean Paste Xiao Long Bao
Perhaps, the most enjoyable memory for the boys other than Disney would be the hotel's bathtub. These pretty sum up my family's first HK trip....

Mauritius, An Island of Emotion

Mauritius, is an island nation in the Indian Ocean off the southeast coast of the African continent. Together with my Diva friend, we travelled to Mauritius in 2014 for our first ever girls trip or what we called as our "Elephant & Hippo Honeymoon". Although Mauritius is an island, the entire island is at least twice bigger than Singapore. Flights to Mauritius are somewhat limited. The airlines that flew to Mauritius include Air Mauritius, Emirates, British Airway and Air France. From Singapore, it took about 10 hours to reach Mauritius, including an hour transit at KL. Despite the long haul flight, I would say Mauritius is worth the visit at least once in your lifetime. I'm glad to have traveled with my Diva friend to this exotic place. Jeju, an island of love and romance Day 2

From its summery island beaches to its statuesque Hallasan Mountain, verdant O'Sulloc green tea fields, and its iconic Sunrise Peak @ Seongsan IIchubang, Jeju Island is an icon in South Korea. Not forgetting the famous Jeju tangerine, a citrus fruit lauded across Jeju island at large. Hence, we decided to go to a local tangerine farm to find out.  I couldn't quite remember the name of the tangerine farm but it took us quite some time to locate it. The farm was near a neighborhood where every household grew their own tangerine trees at their yard/garden. It was quite a sight as this was my first time seeing a tangerine tree.  Anyway, if you like oranges and the idea of trampling through the orchards in search of that perfect fruit, then you've got to come during the tangerine season (which is like from November onwards). Tangerine picking in my opinion is quite an inexpensive activity in Jeju. We googled this tangerine farm not far from the city where tourists and...

Mauritius, An Island Of Emotion @ Chamarel, Black River Gorges and great Seafood lunch

1. Seven Coloured Earth @ Charamel The Seven Coloured Earth is a geological formation and prominent tourist attraction found in the Chamarel Plain of Riviere Noire District in South-western Mauritius. How interesting!   It is in fact a relatively small area of sand dunes comprising sand of seven distinct colours (i.e. red, brown, violet, green, blue, purple and yellow). In fact, the colours are dependent on the sunlight. The main feature of the place is that since these differently coloured sands spontaneously settle in different layers, dunes acquire a surrealistic, striped colouring. At the entrance of the Seven Coloured Earth, there is this beautiful Chamarel Waterfall. Although this is not the most magnificent waterfall that I've seen, this waterfall is the highest in Mauritius.
